Our Top 5 Favorite Hikes in Boise

With a population coming in at just over 200,000 people, Boise still has a ton of untouched outdoor space where nature-lovers can get away from it all. Read on for some of our favorite hiking destinations for you and your family to explore in Boise!
Stack Rock Trail, Boise National Forest
An untamed, woodsier area, Stack Rock is a fabulous place to hike. The ample wildflowers and pine trees and peaceful environment will undoubtedly help you to depress and refresh. In the summer, beat the city heat—the trees keep it shady and cool, so bring layers and enjoy the approximately 10-mile lollipop loop trail. This is considered a moderate trail and best to visit from April through October. Read more about this hike here.
Camel’s Back Trails Loop
For an easier, quick hike, we suggest Camel's Back Trails Loop. With its 1.6 mile loop located near Boise, you’ll be able to get a peek at some critters, as wildlife spotting is what this area has become known for. You can even bring your pups, as long as they remain on leash at all times. Check out more about this location here.
Table Rock Trail
A busy, 3.7-mile loop not far from Boise, this hike features amazing wildflowers and birdwatching aplenty. A moderate trail with many activity options, including mountain biking, from March through November. Horses and dogs are welcomed on this trail, as well. It’s a popular hike with cell service available throughout, although you might try shutting your phone off for a bit and just take in the sights. Mores Mountain Interpretive Loop, Boise National Forest
Adjacent to the Shafer Butte and just about a 20-mile drive from the city, escape to Mores Mountain for a change of scenery. With approximately 500 feet of elevation gain spanning about two miles, it starts at the Shafer Butte Picnic Area and ascends to the summit. With the rock fixtures and awe-inspiring mountain views, bring a camera and take in these sights, Mores Mountain is next to Shafer Butte and a 20-mile drive from the city on Bogus Basin Road. The approximately two-mile Mores Mountain Loop begins at the Shafer Butte Picnic Area and climbs to the summit. With roughly 500 feet of elevation gain, the trail presents some challenges but is accessible by most hikers. For more, click here.
Central Ridge Trail, Military Reserve
Boasting 734 acres, this area is named for Fort Boise and it served several purposes, like the staging of gunnery practice. Once the military operations came to an end, the community noted the significance of the area and highlighted its value as a beautiful recreational area. Now a wildlife and recreational area, visit Central Ridge Trail to escape the digital world and reconnect with the splendors of nature. Read more about this hike here.
