Our Top 5 Idaho Ski Resorts

Spring is in the air—at least we know it’s on the way! In the interim, there’s still plenty of time to take in the sights and all of winter’s splendor. What better way to do just that than by grabbing your gear and hitting one of these ski resorts in Idaho?

Bogus Basin

Located just a 40-minute drive from Boise, Bogus Basin is pretty much a hop, skip, and a jump from home. As a non-profit recreation area, 100% of all profits are used to fund outreach, facilities, and equipment. Bogus Basin boasts 11 lifts, 91 named runs, and 11 options for snack or mealtime. Not for the faint-of-heart, their winter rollercoaster (the “Glade Runner”) plummets 4,000 feet down a winding track. The 27 feet of annual snowfall and options for skiers of all levels make Bogus Basin one of our faves, for sure!

Tamarack Resort

An east-facing ski mountain tucked away in the Payette River Mountains, Tamarack is just a ninety-minute ride out of Boise. Established in 2004, they offer year-round activities and rentals, but the skiing is out of this world! With plenty of dining and lodging options, as well as scenic lake and mountain views, we love Tamarack Resort.

Soldier Mountain

Just 2 hours from Boise, Soldier Mountain offers hours of family enjoyment for kids and adults of all ages! With a magic carpet area for the kiddos and two chair lifts that climb to a staggering 7,177 feet, Soldier Mountain won’t disappoint. Contact them for group and late-in-the-day deals, or to learn more about their Smoky Dome’s peak— at 10,095 feet.

Sun Valley

Drive just under three hours from Boise and you’ll discover Sun Valley Ski Resort. Featuring beautiful scenery in all directions, hidden away off the beaten path, they offer skiing and other snow sports for all levels. With numerous dining and lodging options, the entire family will find something to love about Sun Valley!

 Grand Targhee

Nestled in the western slope of the Tetons in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, this resort offers over 500 inches of snow each year. Although it’s a bit of a drive (five and a half hours from Boise), making Targhee one of your ski destinations will be a choice you won’t regret. They pride themselves in keeping wait times very brief and providing uncrowded, wide-open snow sporting experiences for the entire family.
