Making the Most of New Year’s Eve in Boise

It’s time to celebrate a brand new year and brighter days ahead!

Let’s be honest, it’s been a tough year and just like many other things this year, your New Year’s Eve will surely look different than every other year. That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the evening and celebrate the night away! Here are a couple great ideas to ring in the New Year safely, in lieu of those large gatherings we’re all used to.

Watch the Idaho Potato Drop

The Idaho Potato Drop became an annual tradition in downtown Boise, Idaho, where Idahoans rang in the new year in front of the Idaho State Capitol building, by lowering a giant spud at the stroke of midnight. During any typical year, attendees could enjoy live entertainment, food, races and a spectacular Boise fireworks show at the end of the night.

While this year’s event might not be the in-person event we’re all used to, it’s still on! The much anticipated New Year’s Eve event will be a made-for-television production with live music, a snowboarding competition and a huge fireworks display at midnight.

You can watch the 8th Annual Idaho Potato Drop live, from the comfort of your own home this year on KTVB.

Have Yourself a House Party

While one of the biggest things we will surely miss is celebrating the New Year with friends and family, many people’s priority this year is staying safe. Well, what’s safer than a party at home? Here are some fun ideas to get your party started!

Go all out this year with New Year’s Eve decorations and make a DIY photo booth wall out of streamers and balloons. Get fancied up in your cocktail dresses and ties (or stay in your PJs), take lots of photos and post them on Instagram.

Feeling a little silly doing this alone? Share your evening with your loved ones and start a virtual party, using your favorite video chat platform!

Write down your New Year’s resolutions and share them with your friends and family. Not only a great conversation-starter for your virtual New Year’s Eve party, but this is also a great way to hold yourself accountable for following through with your resolutions!

And of course, an all-time favorite New Year’s Eve tradition - watch the ball drop at Times Square. Don’t forget to pick up some bubbly for your midnight champagne toast!

Cheers to a healthy and happy year to all, from your friends at the Heffner Group at Guild Mortgage.
